Maharashtra govt. has approved the 5 day work week in Maharashtra for Govt. employees. Earlier to this order, Maharashtra State Govt. 22 lakh employees had a second and fourth Saturday holiday. After this approval, all Maharashtra state govt employees will have Monday to Friday Work and Saturday and Sunday Holiday.

With 5 day work week, Govt has also extended the working hours of these employees. Earlier working hours were 9.45 am to 5.30 which will be 9.45 am to 6.15 pm now. They will have 30 minutes of lunch break in the afternoon.

Five day work week is as per the standards of Central Government. Other state employees like Rajashtan, Bihar, Delhi, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, and Tamilnadu already have this 5-day work culture.

State Government Employees union was demanding this for a long time and the State Government recently to get this demand approved.

Government Press release stated that employes will have 264 days’ work instead of 288 days earlier with increased working hours govt employees will work 24 hours more in a year.

Five-day work will not apply to Govt offices which fall under the Factories act and industrial dispute act. Apart from this, all employees like BMC will enjoy this new 5 days working culture.
